Building or determining what to do in these “Covid-19” days is becoming a challenge. I was notified that I would be losing my job what’s now over almost two and a half months. What I’ve done during that time:
1) Upon notification (45 days) I first took some days off to digest the news. Then I took the remaining days to transition and communicate my job to the next team, they would need help & I tried to do what I could to train and transition my position. My main focus was to be clear on by job responsibilities and train as much as possible. I also started a recruiting service my employer set me up with to start reviewing my resume and help me with my search.
2) Took some time with my family, we went on 3 different trips, all relatively local. Two of these were already scheduled one-week trip was not. In total I ‘took off’ for about 3 weeks.
3) Started connecting with previous supervisors, co-workers and recruiters. This one is pretty big, most of my previous experience was with co-workers and supervisors from over fourteen years ago. I started with some of these that I had possible job leads and then some just to see how they were doing. The recruiters were tough, I mean to get them to call me back or get any response on potential leads.
4) Applied for each and every job that looked like it was a fit. I am still to get a live interview.
5) I am a CPA, so I wanted to get as much training in as possible to fulfill by 70-hour requirements so I could focus on my job if and when I get hired. I still have about 8 hours left, but off to a good start!!
I am now looking to the future and plan my next steps. Thankfully, I am still engaged with my recruiting service and in addition to the 70 hours of continuing education I have been developing my marketing plan and researching potential employers. We also meet weekly with 30 – 50 other recruits seeking employment. That work will continue weekly, the team keeps me grounded on the current situation for unemployment. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do next?
